Shopify Product Reviews
Shopify is closing the Shopify Product Reviews app. Ensure that you export any reviews and migrate to a third-party app before the closing date of May 6th 2024.
Before You Start
Ensure you have one of the supported review apps installed on your Shopify store:
These apps use metaobjects and are confirmed to work seamlessly with our themes, pulling through rating data to be displayed on product forms and cards.
Part 1. Enable Star Ratings on product cards
Step 1: Navigate to Theme Settings

- From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
- Find the theme you want to customize and click Customize.
Step 2: Product Cards Settings

- In the theme editor sidebar, click on Theme settings.
- Open Product Cards.
- Under the Star rating heading you should see a setting titled Show star rating. Turn on the setting to display reviews across your product cards (Collection template, Recently viewed, recommended products etc.)
- There are further settings to customise the reviews as you'd like

Part 2: Add Star Rating to the Product template
Step 1: Access Product Template Settings
- While still in the theme editor, click on a product page from the page selector to bring up the product template settings.
Step 2: Insert Star Rating Blocks

- Navigate to the Product section, click Add block and add the Star rating block
- Adjust the placement as needed to align with your store’s design
- There are further settings to customise the reviews as you'd like

Tips for Effective Usage
- Encourage Reviews: More reviews mean more accurate star ratings. Encourage your customers to leave reviews by sending follow-up emails after purchase.
- Highlight Top-Rated Products: Consider featuring top-rated products on your homepage or in a dedicated 'top-rated' section.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
If star ratings do not appear correctly:
- Check App Configuration: Ensure that the review app is configured correctly and that it is actively collecting reviews.
- Theme Compatibility: Make sure that the theme version you are using supports the latest app integrations. If unsure, update to the latest theme version available or contact our support team.
